Hackers threaten to shut down Facebook

The hacker group Anonymous has left a new message on YouTube, threating to shut down Facebook on November 5. “The medium of communication you all so dearly adore will be destroyed,” says the video.

Last month the FBI raided six homes in New York in connection with the “hacktivist” group. Other homes throughout the US were also raided. The Justice Department stated that 21 people were arrested in connection with an attack on PayPal.
However the raids were apparently not enough to silent the group, who released the new YouTube video saying the attack is to protect the public’s privacy, according to the release.

“Facebook has been selling information to government agencies and giving clandestine access to information security firms so that they can spy on people from all around the world,” the group says.

“Changing the privacy settings to make your Facebook account more 'private' is also a delusion. Facebook knows more about you than your family.”

The video ends with a very clear announcement: “Prepare for a day that will go down in history—November 5, 2011.”

An image of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg flashes on the screen near the end of the video. “We do not forgive. We do not forget,” it ends.

The group has been credited with hacking into the Pentagon, Iran’s government e-mails, and possibly Visa, Mastercard and technology companies working for the FBI.
