Honest John

John Malkovich, perhaps the only actor ever to have been immortalised in a film title, certainly one in which he also co-starred, has a very healthy attitude to money.

It seems that he lost a whopping $10m back in 2008 when the now jailed investment adviser Bernie Madoff was exposed as a fraudster.

But did this faze the the 57-year-old American star whose films range from The Killing Fields to the latest Transformers via, of course, Being John Malkovich?

According to a new interview in The Guardian, clearly not. He says: "It's only money. If you have the ability by the insane fortunate nature of your life to make money, losing basically all the money I've ever made is very freeing.

"Some good things came out of it. I had knee surgery this year and was in hospital in Poland, in a clinic with real people who actually have problems, as opposed to me who gets paid a fortune to pretend I have problems. That's worth paying a few million bucks for."
